General characteristics of the Miniature Schnauzer, regardless of coat colour

The Miniature Schnauzer is a true family dog that has had many loyal and many new admirers for decades. Thanks to its character and temperament, it meets the expectations of sporty owners (running, hiking, agility, dog competitions, etc.), families with small and older children, and it can also adapt to a calm household. However, it is a very clever and lively little dog, so it is not suitable for complete couch potatoes. It needs at least two walks a day or constant access to a garden, where it will reliably guard its owners and any other animals. It can seem fearsome from behind the fence, but as soon as it is in front of the fence, it becomes a friend to people and dogs passing by. It never barks without reason or for unnecessarily long periods. With proper upbringing and an understanding of its needs, it becomes the best friend and devoted companion for a long time (13–17 years), even though this time is always far too short... Its training is simple; it is enough to be consistent and not aggressive or cruel. A Schnauzer always understands what is being asked, it is not stubborn and tries to please. The main thing is a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere. It suffers greatly from violence and shouting; physical punishment is unacceptable. Its sensitive soul always betrays it and takes a long time to heal... But when there is general peace and order in the household, the Schnauzer repays everything many times over and tirelessly and sincerely shows gratitude for being able to stay close...
The Miniature Schnauzer is a great lover of travelling, even over longer distances. It looks forward to new experiences, new people, new dogs and new environments.
Because its coat needs regular grooming, it is possible to create a “personal Schnauzer” according to individual taste and the season, and at the same time it does not shed. This eliminates problems with hair around the flat or house. By hand-stripping, or clipping, the dog is deprived of its natural protection against the cold. For this reason, it must never be kept outdoors all year round or outside heated rooms during the winter. Various dog clothes are also suitable, but strictly without trouser legs, which restrict movement. And of course, a supply of vitamins is important for coat renewal. And show grooming? That is perfection itself...
By choosing a Miniature Schnauzer, a cheerful, intelligent, devoted, compact, non-shedding, hardy and incorruptible best friend is gained for many years – small in size, but with a BIG HEART....
